The defining feature of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines is the level of their accuracy. They can also achieve high performance for very specific machining operations or program.

CNC is a long-established technology for automated machining. The first machine was introduced by John T Parsons an engineer in the 1950s, not long after, the first robot was built. Since then, the two technologies have developed together.

The CNC machine is either a movable tool or a movable jig or both. The control of the tool orientation is sometimes possible. The axis that the machine rotates in are precisely controlled by a computer, which allows a very accurate material removal compared to machining by hand.

CNC machining is an established digital manufacturing process that produces parts of high accuracy with excellent physical properties. Although it’s been around since the early 50’s, recent advancements in technology in digital supply chains have reduced the cost of CNC machining extremely and made it much more available easily to a lot of professionals.

There are things we can achieve with CNC machines include:

  • Milling —
  • Turning —
  • Broaching
  • Sawing —

Both3D printing, CNC machining and overhead machine cost corresponds to approximately two thirds of the overall cost.  Generally, the machine rate’s cost is calculated per hour and then is divided by the cost of purchase by the total hours the machine is expected to operate at least for about eight years for five thousand hours per year.

CNC machines come in different variations. It all Depends on the type of their machine architecture and abilities the typical machine per hour differs.

The typical rate of a 3-axis CNC milling machine is $40 per hour. The machine operator salary should be added to this, which usually ranges at around $35 per hour. CNC turning is usually priced lower at $35 per hour, while the machine cost per hour of multi-axis CNC machining usually ranges between $75 and $120 or higher.

To get a new robot, Complete with controllers and tech pendants, new robots cost from $50,000 to $80,000. Once specific application peripherals are added, the robot system costs anything from $100,000 to $150,000 each. Used robots on the other hand or reconditioned robots are a less expensive option. Usually, used robots cost half as much as new robots. Used robot prices can be between an estimated cost of $25,000 and $40,000, and systems with application components cost between $50,000 and $75,000, amounting to a total cost of about $115.
